The main objective of the Parish Pastoral Council is "to promote pastoral activity" that will help the parish achieve its goals of working together towards "the salvation of souls" and building the parish as a living Christian community. This work is always concerned with the overall good of the parish and its mission. The work can include reflection, prayer, planning, setting goals and priorities, coordination, motivation, support, and evaluation. The Parish Pastoral Council is organized to inspire, support, and evaluate the parish's mission but not in the sense of performing specialized work proper to parish action groups such as committees. Its work is one of encouragement and facilitation rather than implementation. The Council should look to the staff and to parish organizations for the development of programs to meet the identified pastoral needs.
